Old Town Bistro is more than somewhere to enjoy a meal. From the moment you walk through the door, there is a genuine sense of warmth, personality and welcome.
Daniel and Margriet have created a restaurant that feels stylish and considered without being formal or intimidating. It is somewhere for lunch, dinner, weekend breakfast, Sunday roast or simply spending time with good company.
We recently visited Old Town Bistro to discover for ourselves what makes this independent Beaconsfield restaurant special.
Old Town Bistro – that lovin' feeling
Therese Cooklin visits Old Town Bistro in Beaconsfield.
“Some places serve you a meal. Others leave you with that loving feeling – and Old Town Bistro manages to do both.”
From the moment my dining guest and I arrived, there was an immediate sense of warmth. Daniel and Margriet have created a restaurant that feels stylish and considered, but never formal or intimidating. More importantly, it feels personal – a home from home.
That spirit came through in the service too. Aaron looked after us with exactly the right balance – observant, friendly and attentive without repeatedly interrupting the conversation. He seemed to notice what was needed before we had to ask. That sort of service makes an enormous difference, all from the attention to detail Daniel expects from his staff.
The food matched the welcome. We shared sun-dried tomato arancini – hot, moist and full of flavour without becoming heavy. My guest chose smoked salmon with capers, shallot, dill mayonnaise and lemon, beautifully fresh and generously served. My vegan aubergine and onion tart was, quite simply, delicious. I genuinely did not want to share it!
We also tasted the king oyster mushroom Wellington, wrapped in greens and pastry and served with crisp golden potatoes, sweet tender parsnips and rich mushroom gravy. It proved that a meat-free roast can still feel indulgent, comforting and complete.
What stayed with me most, however, was the sense of people and community. Daniel moved around the restaurant greeting familiar faces by name and asking after their families. That tells you something about the values behind the business.
Daniel and Margriet are not simply running a restaurant in Beaconsfield – they are part of its fabric.
Old Town Bistro is somewhere you can drop in for lunch, dinner, weekend breakfast or a Sunday roast, and feel equally at home whether you arrive with family, friends or business colleagues.
Would I return? Absolutely. And soon.
